52 - Broad brush thinking 2

"Broad brush thinking" comes from the old painting phrase "paint with a broad brush," which first popped up in English writing around 1808 to mean sketching big ideas with wide strokes instead of tiny details—like a quick landscape overview rather than every leaf. British historian William Mitford used it back then to jab at ancient writer Plutarch for sloppy, general descriptions, and it spread in the 1800s through books and magazines for anything sweeping or rough, like broad criticism or maps that skip fine points. By the 1900s, it turned into everyday talk for big-picture approaches that gloss over specifics, now common in business, politics, and chats to call out lazy overviews or stereotypes.

I absolutely love this piece and all of the gorgeous texture and detail in the brushstrokes. I loved it so much in fact, that I included two variations of this piece in the collection (51 & 52). Display them together or keep it in the colourful family by pairing it with another colourful piece.
