57 - Use Your Imagination

"Use your imagination" is a common nudge to picture things in your head, solve problems creatively, or fill in details without being spoon-fed—like when a parent tells a kid to dream up a story instead of watching TV. The phrase popped up in English around the early 1900s, building on "imagination" from the 14th century (from Latin imaginari, "to picture mentally"), but it took off mid-20th century in everyday talk, books, and parenting to spark resourcefulness or dodge explaining something obvious, often with a playful or impatient tone as in "Figure it out yourself!"

In this piece I wanted to try and capture the way that I experience creativity/insight/ideas/inspirations – as things outside of me swirling around in the ether that I channel into reality.
