"Falling in love," is to tumble headfirst into sudden romantic obsession like an accident you can't control, and the phrase emerged in 1500s English poetry (think Edmund Spenser's The Faerie Queene (1590)), using "fall" for unplanned drops from grace, like falling sick or asleep, to capture love's wild, involuntary rush. In the brain, it kicks off a chemical storm: dopamine floods reward paths for obsession and energy, norepinephrine amps heart race and focus like adrenaline, oxytocin bonds via hugs and gazes, while serotonin dips mimicking OCD, all orchestrated by the ventral tegmental area turning crushes into addictive highs.
