Introversion is a personality trait where people recharge best by spending time alone, prefer deep chats over big crowds, and think before speaking, often coming off as quiet or reflective but with rich inner worlds. The term got coined in 1910 by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung in his book Psychological Types, splitting folks into introverts (energy from within) versus extroverts (energy from others), drawing from ancient ideas like Hippocrates' four humors but making it modern psych. It blew up in the 20th century via tests like Myers-Briggs, shifting from a flaw to a strength, though pop culture sometimes paints introverts as shy hermits instead of thoughtful creators.
