This piece is a crossover of three different elements.

Memento mori ("remember you will die" in Latin) is an ancient reminder of death's inevitability, originating in Roman triumphs where slaves whispered it to victorious generals to curb ego, echoing Stoic philosophy like Marcus Aurelius meditating on mortality for better living and medieval art with skulls urging focus on the afterlife.

"Dura lex, sed lex" is a Latin legal maxim meaning "the law is harsh, but it is the law," originating in 11th-century canon law from Bishop Burchard of Worms to stress obeying even tough rules without exception, later embedded in Roman and common law traditions for equal justice under statutes over personal gripes.
