69 - infatuation
This is piece 43 – Love On the Brain, but glitching out.
Infatuation is that wild, head-over-heels rush you feel for someone new, full of butterflies, obsession, and seeing them as perfect, often driven by lust and fantasy rather than real knowledge of them—it hits fast, burns bright, but usually fades quick when reality kicks in (and it always does lol). The term comes from Latin "infatuatus" (meaning "bewitched" or "foolish"), popping up in English by the 1600s to describe being blinded by passion, then exploding in 20th-century psychology as the early "honeymoon" stage of love (per Sternberg's theory), distinct from deeper commitment. Thinkers like Helen Fisher tied it to dopamine highs like a drug rush, explaining why it feels euphoric but shallow, often leading to impulsive choices before maturing into actual love or crashing.
