"Colour is where the brain meets the universe" (often "Colour is the place where our brain and the universe meet") is a poetic quote widely attributed to Swiss-German artist Paul Klee (1879–1940), though some sources credit Paul Cézanne, capturing how our minds transform raw light waves into vibrant hues via retinal cones and visual cortex processing, bridging physics and perception in abstract art. Klee, a Bauhaus master blending geometry and dreams, likely voiced it to explain colour's mystical role, (eyes detect wavelengths, red ~700nm, violet ~400nm), but the brain constructs "colour" through opponent-process cells and emotional links in the limbic system, making it subjective where objective reality hits subjective experience.
