My very first exhibition (in 2011) was for a project inspired by Banksy, and it set in motion a chain of events that eventually led me to moving to Melbourne and doing this work. The project you are looking at right now would not exist if it weren’t for Banksy.
Putting aside all the elitism, gratuitously hurtful criticism and hoity toity high brow analysis, the primary function of art is to change lives - that’s it.
And sometimes, it’s the only thing that can.
Wall and Piece stopped me dead in my tracks whilst wandering through a gift shop and I poured over the images for hours, as a deep knowing grew inside me that what I was looking at was important - even if I didn’t know why yet. I was fundamentally changed by it.
To this day I have never even seen a real Banksy piece in the flesh and yet look at the staggering impact they have had on me.
Whoever you are, the world is a better and more beautiful place because you are in it. You mean more to us than you will ever know. 🖤
